Glass, Table, and Countertop Surfaces: First Impressions Matter

Clean, well-maintained surfaces are key to a facility’s professional appearance, hygiene, and durability. High-touch areas like tables, countertops, and glass surfaces require a combination of cleaners, sanitizers, and protectants to keep them spotless and safe for use.

Glass Cleaners

Windows, mirrors, and glass display cases should always be streak-free and smudge-resistant to maintain a polished look. Ammonia-based cleaners are effective for removing fingerprints and grime, but alcohol-based or ammonia-free options are preferred for tinted or specialty glass. In food service environments, fragrance-free, food-safe formulations should be used to prevent contamination. For best results, microfiber cloths should be used to avoid streaking and lint residue.

Surface Disinfectants

Tables, counters, and food prep areas must be sanitized frequently to prevent the spread of germs. Quaternary ammonium-based (quat) disinfectants, hydrogen peroxide cleaners, or chlorine-based sanitizers are effective at killing bacteria and viruses. In food service areas, always use EPA-approved, food-contact surface sanitizers that won’t leave harmful residues. Single-use sanitizing wipes are also useful for quick touch-ups between customer visits or food prep sessions.

Polishing & Protection

Stone, stainless steel, and wood surfaces need periodic polishing and sealing to maintain their appearance and longevity. Granite, quartz, and marble countertops benefit from periodic stone sealers that protect against staining from food, beverages, and cleaning chemicals. Stainless steel polish helps resist fingerprints and water spots, keeping appliances and fixtures looking sleek. Wooden tables and butcher block countertops should be treated with food-safe mineral oil or beeswax to prevent drying, cracking, and bacterial absorption.

Anti-Fingerprint & Barrier Coatings

High-touch surfaces in lobbies, reception areas, and restaurants can accumulate fingerprints, smudges, and bacteria quickly. Anti-smudge coatings for glass and stainless steel reduce the need for constant cleaning, while antimicrobial surface treatments provide continuous protection by inhibiting bacterial growth. In high-traffic areas, applying these coatings can extend cleaning cycles and reduce labor costs while improving hygiene.
