Drinking water treatment is all about removing contaminants, maintaining water quality, and ensuring safety for consumption. Adjusting pH with lime, carbon dioxide, or caustic soda helps stabilize the water and protect infrastructure. In some cases, fluoridation is also added to prevent dental decay, using chemicals like sodium fluoride or fluorosilicic acid.
For drinking water filtration, reverse osmosis (RO) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes play a crucial role in removing dissolved salts, bacteria, and organic contaminants. However, these systems require regular cleaning and maintenance to prevent fouling. Scaling from minerals, biofilm buildup, and chlorine damage can all reduce membrane performance, so using antiscalants, biocides, and dechlorination agents ensures they function at optimal levels.
By combining coagulation, filtration, disinfection, and pH control, drinking water systems can provide safe, clean, and high-quality water for consumption and industrial applications. Regular monitoring and maintenance, including chemical dosing and filter cleaning, are essential to keep water quality consistent and compliant with health regulations.
